Nursing care at Pet A&E is provided on a rota from the experienced staff of the host practice OakBeck Veterinary Hospital. These nurses are either fully qualified and listed by the RCVS, or are undergoing student nurse training. As they are thoroughly familiar with the extensive equipment and facilities of the hospital, it makes sense for them to provide the mainstay of the nursing of any in-patients or admitted emergency cases. The early hours of the morning is not the best time to learn how to set up the video-endoscope!
As the nurses are working a rota system, they are able to properly dedicate the time and care that nursing in-patients and emergency patients require. The nurses are paid to be awake & working throughout the whole of their shifts to provide patient care. In addition there is a 2nd on-call nurse that can provide additional assistance in the event of complicated surgery etc. This is a very different situation to expecting a nurse to leave home, return to work to check on a patient, then go back home again to sleep (leaving the patient often unattended for the rest of the night) - especially when the nurse is already tired from having worked a full day.
The veterinary surgeons are highly experienced in providing excellent levels of patient care. The team is primarily based around the staff of VetHospital Ltd, but we are also recruiting dedicated A&E Practitioners.
Our aim is to provide the best possible care for the pets you care for.
